Maria Callas in Concert: The Hologram Tour

Accompanied by The Dallas Opera Orchestra Live on Stage.

Broadway Dallas Logo    Music Hall    Base Xperiential

In celebration of the Music Hall Centennial, Broadway Dallas and The Dallas Opera unite to bring audiences a surreal, one-night-only concert event—Maria Callas in Concert: The Hologram Tour. Since it opened in 1925, the Music Hall at Fair Park has been the cultural touchstone for the citizens of Dallas. This event will continue that longstanding tradition.

On All Hallow’s Eve, state-of-the-art holographic technology will bring world-renowned opera star Maria Callas to life on the Music Hall stage. Featuring the legendary soprano’s digitally remastered recordings, this concert will include iconic arias from Bellini, Bizet, Verdi, Puccini, Gounod, and more, with live orchestration from The Dallas Opera Orchestra.

This one-of-a-kind experience will not only leave you questioning if you are in fact witnessing the real Maria Callas—as you see her laugh, interact, and emote with the orchestra—but it will commemorate an important moment in the city of Dallas’ artistic history with such a beloved artist.

In November 1957, the Dallas Civic Opera (now The Dallas Opera) opened with an iconic performance with Maria Callas at the State Fair Music Hall. Rather than opening with a traditionally staged opera, Callas performed in concert with The Dallas Civic Opera Orchestra and thereby set an artistic precedent for opera stars and companies around the globe. That opening night was a night to remember, as TIME magazine recounts, “[At the end] Callas took a single step forward—so dramatic that people all but jumped. She raised a commanding hand over her head, then threw her arms wide and sent that last full note straight up through the roof.”

Nearly 70 years later, join us as Maria Callas’ electrifying voice will be reunited with The Dallas Opera Orchestra at the Music Hall to make history once again.

The evening’s program will include Callas’s well known roles from Bizet, Verdi, Puccini, and beyond.

    Carmen

    AMERICAN PRODUCTION PREMIERE

If he can’t have her, then no one will!

Meet Carmen: she’s sexy, dangerous, and seriously bad news for any man who succumbs to her charms. Soldier Don José gives up everything to be with this freedom-loving temptress, only to have her dump him for a famous matador! Obsession turns fatal in this American premiere production—a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience Carmen just as Paris audiences did at the inaugural performance in 1875—featuring re-creations of the original sets, costumes, and staging! The Habanera, the Seguidilla, the Toreador Song, and more … our celebrated Maestro and TDO Orchestra bring you the world’s most popular opera!

Dazzling Marina Viotti, “who lives her characters with rare intensity” (OPERA.COM), is Carmen, and Albanian tenor-sensation Saimir Pirgu “is powerful, convincing, and ideally cast” as the lovesick Don José. (THE GUARDIAN)
