This is Wagner’s medieval fairy tale — the story of a mystical knight in shining armor, a damsel in distress, and two formidable adversaries that ooze evil.
Sonic majesty and villainy to match “Game of Thrones”.
King Henry needs a hero to save his kingdom from invaders. And the virtuous Elsa needs a champion to clear her of accusations that she murdered her brother — leveled by a throne-seeking venomous knight and his sorceress sister.
Enter the mysterious Lohengrin — arriving by boat drawn by a magical swan. He’s the hero who will save the day and marry Elsa, as long as she never asks the three forbidden questions. (She does!)
Come and luxuriate in Lohengrin’s vocal and orchestral magnificence — the famous “Bridal Chorus;” epic arias, ensembles, and choruses; and the iconic “Prelude,” with its shimmering violins pouring out glorious sound, in Wagner’s words, “like streams of gold, ravishing the senses of the beholder.”
Sung in German with English Supertitles PG
