The Dallas Opera traditionally performs operas in their original languages. English translations (called titles) are projected above the stage throughout every performance. The titles are also used even when the opera is sung in English.
When can I go to my seat?
The Margaret McDermott Performance Hall opens for seating 30 minutes prior to all performances. Prior to the hall opening for seating, patrons are welcome to use seating options in the lobby as well as on each level of the Winspear.
Where can I get something to eat or drink?
Prior to Mainstage operas, dining is available inside the Winspear Opera House at The Skyline Terrace, a curated buffet. For timing, menu, pricing, and availability, visit our venue partners at the AT&T Performing Arts Center here.
Concessions are available from the bars on every floor before the performance and at intermission.
Just outside the Winspear Opera House on Flora Street, Flora Cantina offers a combination of regional Texas and Mexican cuisines and cocktails. For more information including service hours, visit Flora Cantina here.
There is a wide array of other dining options available throughout the Dallas Arts District. To learn more about dining options near the Winspear Opera House, visit the Dallas Arts District here.
No food or beverages are permitted inside McDermott Hall during performances of The Dallas Opera.
What if I arrive late?
Late seating is at the discretion of the House Manager. If you arrive late or exit the performance prior to intermission, we will do our best to accommodate you in a different seating area that will not disrupt the experience of other attendees. You may return to your designated seats at intermission.
In order to get the most out of your opera experience, it is important to arrive prior to curtain time. Evening performances typically begin at 7:30 pm and matinees at 2:00 pm, but please check your tickets or consult the performance page on our website.
What time should I arrive?
The Winspear lobby opens 90 minutes prior to performance time. For your safety, metal detector screening and bag checks are in place for all ticketed events. Please plan to arrive early so you have ample time.
Join us for the Joy and Ronald Mankoff Pre-Opera Talk, an interactive 30-minute lecture that begins one hour before the start of each Mainstage opera on the Orchestra level of the Margaret McDermott Performance Hall. Admission is free for all patrons with tickets for the accompanying performance.
Family Shows also include pre-show activities and crafts in the lobby starting at 12:30pm before 2:00pm performances.
When is the Winspear Opera House Open?
On performance days, the Winspear Opera House opens 90 minutes prior to the start time of each performance. Following each performance, the Winspear closes once all patrons exit the hall.
Outside of special program offerings, The Dallas Opera is not able to welcome patrons to the Winspear Opera House on non-performance days. For assistance with Ticketing or all other inquiries, please contact us via phone at 214.443.1000 or via email at info@dallasopera.org.
