    The Heart of the Song

    Available through July 30, 2021 on thedallasopera.TV

Olé! A spectacular celebration of song from Mexico and Latin America.

Three of the world’s most famous tenors, all-Mexican born, get together for spirited repartee and sensational singing of beloved songs from Mexico and Latin America. Enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime concert!

    Javier Camarena

“…Melting and nuanced, clarion in coloratura, his sound sunny and earnest. There is no one better.”—The New York Times

From the artist (who is accompanied on the guitar by his wife Marisol Rincón):

    • “La Malagueña” You’ll instantly recognize this famous folk song with its incredible falsetto notes. Recorded by more than 200 artists, it tells the tale of a man rejected by a beautiful woman because he is too poor.
    • “Amorcito corazón” (Darling Sweetheart) A melt-your-heart serenade composed by Pedro de Uridimala, it’s famous as the theme music for the fabled Mexican film “Nosotros Los Pobres” (We the Poor).

    Rolando Villazón

“Beautiful timbre…lyricism…astonishingly exact coloratura…he is simply a great artist.”—Der Kurier, Vienna

From the artist (who is accompanied by the internationally renowned harpist Xavier de Maistre):

    • “Al banco solitario” (The lonely bench) is the beautiful and much-loved Argentinian ballad about loneliness and isolation, composed by Yvette Souviron.
    • “La Llorona” (The Weeping Woman). Everyone in Mexico knows this folk song based on the legend of a ghost woman destined to mourn the loss of her dead children for eternity.

(Both songs are featured on Mr. Villazón’s album “Serenata Latina” from Deutsche Grammophon).

    David Lomelí

“…the Mexican tenor sang with heroic poise, with seemingly boundless energy and control…”—The Washington Post

In his first public performance in six years, he sings the marvelous mariachi song, “Deja que salga la luna” (Let the moon start shining) by José Alfredo Jiménez Sandoval. “It’s about hope and possibilities and new beginnings that, in a very Mexican way, is a call to action that speaks to me deeply about where I am in my life,” says Mr. Lomelí.

Sung in Spanish with English subtitles; Conversations in English with Spanish subtitles.

This Originals film is available to rent for $11.99 and may be viewed through July 30, 2021. Click on the button below to go to thedallasopera.TV to rent now!
