Great Expectations
It’s always fun to be noticed and we’ve noticed that we’ve made a several note-worthy lists lately including Katie Womack’s “Dallas Observer” piece on the “Ten Must-Hear Classical Music Shows in Dallas This Fall.” Read the piece right here.
We were equally pleased to see that we made the select list of “Hot Tickets” in “Opera News” for the 2012-2013 Season; chosen from events and productions taking place all across the nation. Interestingly, Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer’s “Moby-Dick” at San Francisco Opera also makes the list.
“Dallas Morning News” Classical Music Critic Scott Cantrell’s list of the Top FIVE Classical Music Programs this Fall including our season opener: AIDA, starring Latonia Moore in the title role. Get details from Scott here.

It’s Not the Heat, It’s the Humidity
Actually, hope for the future of opera is expressed in varying DEGREES in this KERA “Art and Seek” piece on “Taking Opera’s Temperature.” Arts producer/reporter Jerome Weeks lets other pundits do the talking on the NPR segment produced by Tom Huizenga. However, he does note that, when queried about the most dynamite new opera of the millenium, “Washington Post” critic Anne Midgette responded with “Moby-Dick.”
How awesome is that? Louder, please!

BORIS G. Wows “Opera News”
Like I always say, “Better late than never!”
From the exclusive online content of “Opera News”:
“Never has the Dallas Opera orchestra made such commanding, majestic music, capable of a full range of tonal effects; never has it played more like a great symphonic ensemble. Under Graeme Jenkins’s baton, the orchestra filled the hall with rich sound and bathed the audience in sonic color, power and nuance. The lower strings were sumptuous, sometimes ominous; the brass was energetic but never snarling; the winds, from piccolo to bassoon, were supportive; the percussion was commanding and even terrifying when necessary.”
