DALLAS, TX, MAY 14, 2015 – The Dallas Opera is proud to present two exceptional musical programs during this year’s inaugural Soluna International Music & Arts Festival (presented by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra).
The first, in partnership with Santa Barbara’s renowned Music Academy of the West, gives lovers of vocal music the chance to hear the winners of the annual Marilyn Horne Song Competition as an added dimension of the popular Robert E. and Jean Ann Titus Art Song Recital Series. The Music Academy of the West is one the nation’s premier summer training programs for gifted young classical musicians.
The 2014 competition champions, soprano Michelle Bradley and pianist Michael Gaertner will perform this Sunday afternoon (May 17, 2015) at 2:00 p.m. in Horchow Auditorium at the Dallas Museum of Art, 1717 N. Harwood Street, Dallas, TX 75201.
General Admission tickets are on sale for $10 for this one-time-only event. They may be purchased through the Dallas Opera Patron Services Office at 214.443.1000 or, at the door.
Scott Reed, President of the Music Academy of the West affirms the remarkable possibilities of such a partnership: “We are thrilled to join hands with Keith Cerny and The Dallas Opera in order to create new opportunities for the extraordinary young talents identified through the Marilyn Horne Song Competition.”
The Music Academy of the West was founded in 1947 by a group of visionary Southern California arts patrons and musicians.
Famed American mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne, known for her extraordinary range and vocal flexibility and regarded as one of the 20th century’s great champions of lesser-known works (including Vivaldi’s Orlando furioso, which received its American premiere at the Dallas Opera in 1980, starring Ms. Horne), is an academy alumnus herself. She has served as Director of the Voice Program for The Music Academy of the West since 1997.
The song competition named in her honor regularly attracts industry insiders eager for a glimpse of up-and-coming talent.

The following Saturday, May 23, 2015, acclaimed American baritone Craig Verm (Everest) will command centerstage in the Horchow Auditorium at the DMA, as he presents a lushly romantic portrait of a long vanished world, “Music & Masterpieces: Vienna in the Age of Opulence,” with songs by Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss and Erich Wolfgang Korngold.
These songs and arias of love, longing and loss pair beautifully with the Dallas Museum of Art’s dazzling exhibition of “Modern Opulence in Vienna: The Wittgenstein Vitrine” located in the conservation gallery. The recital will be followed by a docent-led tour.
“Music & Masterpieces” is a popular, ongoing series presented by The Dallas Opera in partnership with the Dallas Museum of Art. Admission to the Horchow Auditorium performance at 2:00 p.m. is FREE; however, seating is limited. Secure your seat online today at dallasopera.org/rsvp.
