La bohème
TO BE YOUNG AND IN LOVE AND IN PARIS…
Hungry, cold, broke, and deliriously in love, the artists in Puccini’s masterpiece break our hearts over and over again each time it is performed, our pulses quickening as Rodolfo lights Mimì’s candle anew. The Dallas Opera’s treasured period production returns with a fresh cast of some of opera’s brightest rising stars, transporting us to the cafés and corridors of Paris’s Latin Quarter as tragedy hovers nearby.
In their Dallas Opera debuts, Uzbekistan-born tenor Bekhzod Davronov sings Rodolfo and American lyric soprano Sylvia D’Eramo is Mimì. Japanese baritone Takaoki Onishi is Marcello, and the magnetic Musetta is sung by American soprano Emily Pogorelc. »See full cast

Orpheus and Eurydice
THE STORY THAT INSPIRED THE BROADWAY HIT, ‘HADESTOWN.’
In this classic myth of unwavering love that celebrates the transcendent power of music, Orpheus descends to the land of shadows to rescue his bride Eurydice. His music charms its gatekeepers, and the gods allow Eurydice to return—on the condition that Orpheus lead her back to the world of the living without gazing upon her face.
In this new production, Director Joachim Schamberger envisions the famous couple later in life as Eurydice descends into dementia—a heartbroken Orpheus uses love and the power of music to rescue her from darkness.
Gluck’s original 1762 score will be conducted by Music Director Emmanuel Villaume, leading The Dallas Opera Orchestra and Chorus. Two exciting young singers lead the cast: countertenor Hugh Cutting, making his U.S. debut as the steadfast lover Orpheus, and soprano Madison Leonard as the enigmatic Eurydice.
“Hugh Cutting … sings like a god … his potent, enamel-finished tone and vivid expression…is very much the tragic but determined lover.”—The Dallas Morning News
“Madison Leonard delivers her shifting emotions in and out of the underworld with a gleaming, glowing soprano.”—The Dallas Morning News

Christian Gerhaher Sings Schumann
CHRISTIAN GERHAHER, baritone
GEROLD HUBER, piano
In a rare US appearance, revered German baritone Christian Gerhaher is joined by his longtime pianist Gerold Huber for this season’s Titus Family Recital. The formidable duo performs a program featuring lieder by Robert Schumann, a complete survey of which they have recorded to great acclaim. “Gerhaher’s recital partnership with Huber is a relationship of equals, in which baritone and pianist function as a single expressive unit, while confessional intimacy and emotional refinement characterize Gerhaher’s singing at its best… breathtaking” (The Guardian).
An annual season highlight, the Titus Family Recital showcases the most accomplished and insightful interpreters of art song performing on international stages today, welcoming Texas patrons to the intimate setting of Moody Performance Hall with accessible and inviting ticket prices.
