The Irish-Canadian mezzo-soprano won the “Young Singer” category in the 2018 International Opera Awards and was “Breakthrough Artist in UK Opera” in the 2017 WhatsOnStage Awards. Recent highlights include Dodo/Breaking the Waves (Edinburgh International Festival, Adelaide Festival) and house debuts at Seattle Opera (title role/La cenerentola) and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Bradamante/Alcina). Operatic highlights also include Giunta’s first Carmen, Rosina, and Octavian (all at Oper Leipzig); Idamante/Idomeneo (Toronto’s Opera Atelier); Flora/La traviata (Royal Opera House, Muscat); the Child/L’enfant et les sortilèges, Dinah/Trouble in Tahiti, and Cenerentola (Opera North); Anna/Weill’s Seven Deadly Sins (Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla), Sesto/La clemenza di Tito and Dorabella/Cosí fan tutte (both at the Canadian Opera Company); and Olga/The Merry Widow (Metropolitan Opera). Giunta recently presented a critically acclaimed solo recital at the BBC Proms and appeared with the major symphony orchestras of Munich, Leipzig, Toronto, and Ottawa. The mezzo-soprano is an alumna of the Metropolitan Opera Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, The Juilliard School’s Artist Diploma in Opera Studies program, and the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio.
