The American bass-baritone (TDO debut) appeared during the 2019/20 season as Leporello/Don Giovanni, the seven baritone roles/Death in Venice, St.-Bris/Les Huguenots, and Oberthal/Le prophète, all at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he was an Ensemble member from 2010 to 2019. In addition to Leporello (Hamburg State Opera), the 2020/21 season has included several important debuts, including Orest/Elektra (Stadttheater Klagenfurt), and Fortnum Roscoe and Johnson Evesham/Dai Fujikura’s A Dream of Armageddon (world premiere) with New National Theatre Tokyo. Carico recently made an acclaimed debut as Scarpia/Tosca at the Staatsoper Hannover. Guest engagements have also included Joseph de Rocher/Dead Man Walking (Minnesota Opera), Nick Shadow/The Rake’s Progress and Dr. John Polidori/Wertmüller’s Diodati.unendlich (both at Theater Basel, the latter a world premiere), and other roles in Essen, Leipzig, Dessau, and Fort Worth, among many other venues. Carico built a robust repertoire during ten seasons in Berlin, including composers as diverse as Mozart, Verdi, Wagner, Massenet, Puccini, Shostakovich, Berg, Janáček, Britten, and Iannis Xenakis (Oresteia—nomination for the 2015 German National Theater Prize, “Der Faust,” as Best Male Singer).
