Sean J. Smith a proud Canadian, Sean J. Smith has trained with Goh Ballet Academy, Ballet British Columbia and The Ailey School. He has performed with Bruce Wood Dance Project, Rhythmic Souls Tap Company, Dallas Theater Center (The Wiz in 2011 and Hairspray in 2018) and African American Repertory Theater for which he received the Irma P. Hall Black Theater Award for Best Choreographer. Sean is now in his 10th season with Dallas Black Dance Theatre and serves as Rehearsal Assistant. Sean has performed works by Alvin Ailey, Judith Jamison, Donald McKayle, Robert Battle, and Matthew Rushing among others. Sean has taught for Ailey Athletic Boys, Peridance Capezio Center (NYC), and Southern Methodist University. Sean’s choreographic credits include Monologues (2013) and Interpretations (2017) both premiered by DBDT.
