The American mezzo-soprano, who has portrayed Meg Page/Falstaff at TDO, returns this summer to The Santa Fe Opera as Cherubino/The Marriage of Figaro. She has also been heard with that company as Suzuki, the Page/Salome, and Claire/Jennifer Higdon’s Cold Mountain (world premiere). Marino recently returned to the Metropolitan Opera as Flora/La traviata and to Opera Colorado for her much-acclaimed Rosina/The Barber of Seville, a portrayal heard at six other American companies, among them Fort Worth Opera and Florida Grand Opera. Marino has appeared with nearly every major American company. Among Marino’s other Met credits are Die Frau ohne Schatten (debut), Thaïs, Rusalka, Iolanta, and Suor Angelica. Lyric Opera of Chicago audiences have applauded her as Annina/Der Rosenkavalier, and she has starred as Hansel/Hansel and Gretel at Lyric Opera of Kansas City. Other stage successes include Olga/Eugene Onegin (Kansas City, Atlanta), Varvara/Katya Kabanova (Spoleto Festival USA), and Despina/Così fan tutte (Central City Opera). Among Marino’s European credits is Parsifal at the Opéra National de Paris. She has appeared in concert at the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and at the Caramoor Festival, among many other venues.
