Markus Werba began his career at the Vienna Volksoper and is renowned for his interpretations of Mozart baritone roles, particularly Papageno, which he has sung for companies including Vienna State Opera and the Salzburg Festival. He has sung Don Giovanni at Zürich Opera and La Fenice, Venice. His other repertory includes Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Gabriel von Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus, Pelléas, Sixtus Beckmesser in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, and Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro for Vienna State Opera. Werba is active as a concert singer and recitalist, with a particular interest in German Lieder. His recordings include a CD of Schubert, Schumann and Wolf songs recorded at the Wigmore Hall, Haydn’s Creation with Les Arts Florissants and two DVDs.
