The fast-rising American soprano, a 2018 winner of the Metropolitan National Council Auditions, starred as Gilda/Rigoletto at both Seattle Opera and Austin Opera. She also returned to the Florida Orchestra for Stravinsky’s Pulcinella and sang Handel’s Messiah with the Jacksonville Symphony. Other recent successes have included role debuts as Ilia/Idomeneo, Juliette/Roméo et Juliette, Madeline/Philip Glass’s The Fall of the House of Usher, and the Daughter/Glass’s The Juniper Tree (Wolf Trap Opera); Chrisann Brennan/Mason Bates’s The [R]evolution of Steve Jobs and Frasquita/Carmen (Seattle Opera); Morgana/Alcina, the High Priestess/Aida, Rose/Rachel Portman’s The Little Prince, and Little Zegner Sister/Missy Mazzoli’s Proving Up (Washington National Opera, as a member of the company’s young-artist program); and Mozart’s Susanna (Idaho’s Inland Northwest Opera). Concert performances include multiple engagements with the National Symphony Orchestra and the Florida Orchestra. She joined the New York Festival of Song for a program of music from the British Isles at Caramoor and Merkin Hall in New York City. Leonard is an alumna of the Merola Opera Program at San Francisco Opera and the Des Moines Metro Opera young-artist program.
