    Gwyn Hughes Jones

The Welsh tenor first starred at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as Pinkerton/Madama Butterfly, and has since returned as Macduff/Macbeth and Walther von Stolzing/Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. He made role debuts as Stolzing and as Don Alvaro/La forza del destino at English National Opera, where he recently returned as Cavaradossi/Tosca and Radames/Aida. He also recently portrayed Cavaradossi at Scottish Opera. Hughes Jones, who made his professional debut at Welsh National Opera as Ismaele/Nabucco, is a great favorite there in a wide variety of leading roles, most recently Florestan/Fidelio and Gustavo/Un ballo in maschera. Appearances beyond Britain include the Metropolitan Opera (Manrico, Pinkerton, Ismaele, Fenton/Falstaff); Lyric Opera of Chicago (Pinkerton, Fenton, Rodolfo); San Francisco Opera (Rodolfo, Ismaele); Washington and LA Opera (Cavaradossi); Opéra National de Paris (Ismaele, Camille/The Merry Widow); Opéra National de Lyon (Werther); and Norwegian National Opera (Rodolfo, Don José). The tenor has appeared with such prestigious ensembles as Rome’s Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Flemish Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He can be heard on CD as Macduff/Macbeth.
