The Rome-born tenor first attracted international attention as the Duke of Mantua/Rigoletto at the Arena di Verona. His success there led to his La Scala debut in the same role under James Conlon, who subsequently chose him to sing the Duke at LA Opera. Among his most important past engagements have been Rigoletto (Arena di Verona, Trieste, Rome, Venice, Warsaw, Sydney, Liège), La traviata (Deutsche Oper Berlin), Simon Boccanegra (Turin’s Teatro Regio), Lucia di Lammermoor (Frankfurt, Naples, La boheme (Torre del Lago’s Puccini Festival, as well as in Verona); and Un ballo in Maschera and Verdi’s Requiem (Trieste). Terranova recently made two important role debuts, singing the title role/Don Carlo (Düsseldorf) and Pollione/Norma (Essen). He sang Alfredo/La traviata in the first year of Opera Australia’s new festival at the Sydney Harbour. Among his future engagements is Pinkerton/Madama Butterfly at the Greek National Opera. Terranova portrayed Enrico Caruso in the Italian TV-movie Caruso, la voce dell’amore, both singing and acting as the great Italian tenor. He can be heard on two solo CDs, “Gianluca Terranova canta Caruso” and “Recital.”
