The Chilean tenor, who debuted at TDO in this role, has also starred in Tosca with 13 other companies internationally, among them those of Bari, Lausanne, Düsseldorf, Budapest, and Montreal. Monsalve has also earned acclaim with the major opera companies of Zurich, Turin, London, Munich, Cologne, Bologna, and Warsaw, as well as throughout Latin America. Highlighting his American appearances have been Pollione/Norma (Florida Grand Opera), Don Alvaro/La forza del destino (Washington National Opera), and Calaf/Turandot (Michigan Opera Theater). Recent successes include La forza del destino (Teatro Municipal de Santiago), Carmen (Seoul Arts Center, Hong Kong Opera, National Opera of Albania in Tirana), and a gala tour in Australia with the Melbourne Opera Orchestra. Among the distinguished figures on the international opera scene with whom Gonsalve has collaborated are conductors Riccardo Muti, Oleg Caetani, and Yves Abel, and stage directors Francesca Zambello, Peter Konwitschny, Patrice Caurier, Moshe Leiser, and Hugo de Ana. Monsalve holds the title of Cultural Ambassador and the UNESCO Medal, presented to him by the government of Chile and the city of Valparaíso.
