The American tenor, who sang Don Basilio/The Marriage of Figaro at TDO earlier this season, has previously appeared with the company in Madama Butterfly and Moby-Dick. Since his 2004 Metropolitan Opera debut as Mime/Das Rheingold, the American tenor has returned to the company for operas of Giordano, Puccini, Offenbach, Wagner, and Mozart. In summer 2020 Cangelosi sang his first Loge/Das Rheingold at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. He has reprised his signature role of Mime for San Francisco Opera’s Ring cycle (2017/2018) and Washington National Opera (2015/2016). In January 2018 he finished recording the complete Ring with the Hong Kong Philharmonic under Jaap van Zweden. Other recent engagements include a return to Carnegie Hall for Bohuslav Martinů’s Juliette (American Symphony Orchestra—U.S. premiere); his role debut as the Blind Judge/Korngold’s Das Wunder der Heliane (Bard Summerscape); Das Rheingold (Opéra de Montréal); and Tosca (Washington National Opera). Cangelosi is closely associated with Lyric Opera of Chicago and is an alumnus of that company’s Ryan Opera Center. He has also appeared with the Cleveland Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra
