Ángel Vargas, Puerto-Rican tenor, just completed his second season with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis as a Gerdine Young Artist where he sang in the world premiere of Huang Ruo’s An American Soldier. Vargas will make his role debut as the Duke in Rigoletto with Resonance Works in Pittsburgh. As a fellowship recipient with the Aspen Music Festival, Vargas sang Spalazani in Les contes d’Hoffmann. He has also interpreted the roles of Gherardo (Gianni Schicchi), Vašek (The Bartered Bride), Elder Gleaton (Susannah), the Commisaire (Dialogues des Carmélites), and has covered the roles of the Duke (Rigoletto) and Hoffmann (Les contes d’Hoffmann). Mr. Vargas is a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Puerto Rico District and is a finalist at the Gulf Coast Regionals. In 2019, Vargas graduated with his master’s degree from Rice University. Vargas studies with Dr. Stephen King.
