This Canadian soprano, who previously starred at TDO as Magnolia/Show Boat, was acclaimed last season for her role debut as Michal/Handel’s Saul at Houston Grand Opera. Among her most important achievements in recent seasons have been Adina/L’elisir d’amore (Metropolitan Opera, where she has also been heard in The Enchanted Island, Hansel and Gretel, and The Merry Widow), Mary/Jake Heggie’s It’s a Wonderful Life (San Francisco Opera), Pat Nixon /Nixon in China (Houston Grand Opera), and Eurydice/Orphée et Eurydice (Lyric Opera of Chicago premiere of John Neumeier’s new production, seen on PBS and available on DVD—Chuchman later reprised her role at the Hamburg Staatsoper). She has also been featured at LA Opera, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Washington National Opera, Canadian Opera Company, the Hamburg Staatsoper, Glyndebourne on Tour, and with the Lincoln Center’s White Lights Festival, Opera Omaha’s ONE Festival, Spoleto Festival USA, and the Bard Music Festival. Chuchman is an alumna of Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Ryan Opera Center and the Merola Opera Program at San Francisco Opera, where she received the company’s Emerging Star of the Year Award in 2019.
