The American tenor, previously heard at TDO as the Steersman/The Flying Dutchman, is former first-prize winner of the prestigious Giulio Gari and Gerda Lissner competitions. His recent leading roles have included Count Almaviva/The Barber of Seville (Opera Colorado), Tamino/The Magic Flute and Sprink/Silent Night (both at Utah Opera), Nemorino/The Elixir of Love and Tamino (both at Seattle Opera), Tonio/La fille du régiment (Washington National Opera), Fadinard/The Italian Straw Hat (The Minnesota Opera), and the exceptionally demanding role of Danny Chen/An American Soldier (world premiere, Washington National Opera; world premiere of expanded version, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis). Stenson’s appearances at Lyric Opera of Chicago include Ferrando/Così fan tutte and Gen/Bel Canto (world premiere, PBS telecast). He has also been heard in Don Pasquale (Glyndebourne), Foreoni’s Margherita (Wexford Festival Opera), and as Bernstein’s Candide (Toulouse’s Théâtre du Capitole, Opéra National de Bordeaux, Glimmerglass Festival, San Francisco Symphony). An alumnus of the young-artist programs of the Metropolitan Opera, Seattle Opera, and San Francisco Opera, the tenor has been featured at the Met as Beppe/Pagliacci and Demetrius/The Enchanted Island.
