The Ukrainian baritone has previously appeared at TDO as Robert/Iolanta. Among his most important achievements in recent seasons have been Malatesta/Don Pasquale and Marcello/La bohème (the latter a new production) at the Zurich Opera House, the title roles/Billy Budd, and Eugene Onegin at Cologne Opera (he has also starred as Onegin at the Deutsche Oper Berlin), Pelléas/Pelléas et Mélisande at Scottish Opera, and Belcore/L’elisir d’amore at Munich’s Bayerische Staatsoper. Other highlights have included War and Peace (new production, St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theater), The Marriage of Figaro (Teatro Real Madrid, Opera Australia), his role debut in Billy Budd for the work’s first production in Russia (St. Petersburg’s Mikhailovsky Theatre), and performances at Glyndebourne, Staatstheater Stuttgart, and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. Bondarenko took part in the prestigious Salzburg Festival Young Singers Project, subsequently returning to the festival for Roméo et Juliette and Le rossignol. He has recorded the title role/Don Giovanni and Count Almaviva/The Marriage of Figaro, Prokofiev’s Lieutenant Kijé Suite, and Rachmaninoff songs. Bondarenko was Song Prize winner in the 2011 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition.
