The American conductor, who previously led The Coronation of Poppea, The Tempest, and Moby-Dick (world premiere) at TDO, is Artistic and Music Director of Houston Grand Opera and former Principal Guest Conductor of San Francisco Opera. Among his recent successes on the podium are the West Coast premiere of It’s A Wonderful Life at San Francisco Opera; the Renée Fleming 25th Anniversary Concert & Gala at Lyric Opera of Chicago; the Israeli premiere of Dead Man Walking with the Israeli Opera; and Calixto Bieito’s production of Carmen in Barcelona. Alongside Renée Fleming, Summers was recently appointed as co-artistic director of Aspen Music School’s redesigned opera program. He has fostered and performed more than 20 world premieres, collaborating with such eminent composers as Jake Heggie, Carlisle Floyd, Christopher Theofanidis, and Philip Glass. He has appeared with many other major companies, such as the Metropolitan Opera and the leading companies of Chicago, Los Angeles, Berlin, Rome, Cardiff, Oslo, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Lisbon, and Sydney, as well as at the Bregenz Festival.
