The director’s work encompasses an eclectic range of repertoire and has been consistently praised for its creatively theatrical and innovative approach. Condemi is closely associated with San Francisco Opera (Carmen, Madama Butterfly, Faust, Tosca, Così fan tutte, Un ballo in maschera, L’elisir d’amore for families, world premiere of The Secret Garden). Condemi has also directed at Lyric Opera of Chicago (Ernani, Tristan und Isolde, The Barber of Seville), Houston Grand Opera (Aida), Canadian Opera Company (Luisa Miller), Seattle Opera (Orphée et Eurydice, La bohème, Tosca, Il trovatore), (Michigan Opera Theater (Frida), Cincinnati Opera (Tosca, Ainadamar, Don Giovanni, La traviata, Il trovatore, Maria de Buenos Aires), and the major companies of Louisville, Portland, Atlanta, New Orleans, St. Louis, Denver, and Buenos Aires, among others. As Associate Director, he has worked on production for San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Canadian Opera Company, and Houston Grand Opera. Former Artistic Director of Opera Santa Barbara, Condemi is the Carol Franc Buck Distinguished Chair and the Director of Opera and Musical Theater at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
