The English composer’s critically acclaimed first opera, Everest, premiered in 2015 at TDO. Highlights in Talbot’s diverse catalogue include the narrative ballets Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (2011) and The Winter’s Tale (2014, winner of the Prix Benois de la Danse), both collaborations with choreographer Christopher Wheeldon for The Royal Ballet and National Ballet of Canada; the choral work Path of Miracles (2005), commissioned by Nigel Short’s Tenebrae Choir; arrangements of songs by Detroit rock duo The White Stripes alongside Talbot’s original works for choreographer Wayne McGregor’s Chroma (Royal Ballet, 2006); Worlds, Stars, Systems, Infinity (2012), an additional movement to Holst’s The Planets for the Philharmonia Orchestra’s interactive digital installation; and Genus Quartet (2013) for Los Angeles’s acclaimed Calder Quartet. For the BBC Proms, Talbot has written The Wishing Tree (The King’s Singers); Sneaker Wave (BBC National Orchestra of Wales); and two works premiered by the BBC Symphony Orchestra—Ink Dark Moon (a concerto for acclaimed guitarist Miloš Karadaglić) and an arrangement of Purcell’s Chacony in G Minor. Talbot’s new score for Carl Theodor Dreyer’s 1932 film Vampyr, commissioned for LA Opera’s Off Grand season, premiered in 2018.
