This season the mezzo-soprano, who made her TDO debut in The Magic Flute, is scheduled to return to Teatro Nuovo, America’s bel canto opera festival, for her third Rossini role there, Calbo/Maometto II. She will also join Germany’s Bochumer Symphoniker for her international debut, a solo program of bel canto repertoire originally written for castrato. Last season, Ludwig sang her first Giovanna/Anna Bolena (Baltimore Concert Opera). Other recent role debuts in bel canto include Rosina (Annapolis Opera), Pippo/La gazza ladra and Isaura/Tancredi (both with Teatro Nuovo), and Alisa/Lucia di Lammermoor (Opera Philadelphia). On the concert stage, Ludwig sang her first performances of Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky (Colorado Symphony), Mozart’s Requiem (Columbus Symphony Orchestra), and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 (Flint Symphony Orchestra). The mezzo, who won second place in the 2018 Loren L. Zachary Society for the Performing Arts Vocal Competition, has received encouragement awards from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and numerous other important competitions. Ludwig completed her training at Philadelphia’s Academy of Vocal Arts, where she sang many leading roles.
