The world-renowned English cartoonist/illustrator has made an extraordinary impact in his extensive associations with The Sunday Times, The New Yorker, and Pink Floyd. Scarfe’s work has been seen on film (Disney’s Hercules) and on British television (the series The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, Yes Minister, and Yes, Prime Minister). The Royal Mail used Scarfe’s work for five stamps issued in 1998, honoring British comedians. His designs in the opera house include Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld (English National Opera), The Magic Flute and Tobias Picker’s Fantastic Mr. Fox (both for LA Opera, the latter in its world premiere). He also designed Christopher Hampson’s version of The Nutcracker for English National Ballet. Scarfe was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2008 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
