Terms & Conditions
By submitting your applications to The Dallas Opera Guild Biennial Lone Star Vocal Competition (“Competition”), you agree to all of the following Terms and Conditions between yourself (“Applicant”) and The Dallas Opera (“TDO”). “Applicant” means any person submitting this application to TDO. “Competitor” means any Applicant selected to compete in the competition. References to “we” means TDO and references to “you” means the Applicant and, if selected, the Competitor.
Selection. TDO will organize a Judges Panel (“Judges Panel” to select the Competitors based upon each Applicant’s submission materials at the Judges Panel sole discretion. The Judges Panel will make its selection of the Competitors by March 15, 2020, and all competitors will be notified by phone. Applicants are notified, if selected as a Competitor or not, via email and/or phone via the contact information provided with the application. The state competition is open to singers, age 18 through 30 (as of May 9, 2020), who are Texas residents or students. Applicants may not have a participated in any Young Artist or Resident Artist Program with a professional opera company, or, had any prior principal artist contract with an opera company.
Entry Fee. All Applicants must pay for an entry fee of $20 via credit card through YAP Tracker in order to be considered for the Competition. Application fees are non-refundable.
Competition. The Competition will take place on Saturday, May 9th at The Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House (2403 Flora St, Dallas, TX 75201). Each competitor’s performance time will be scheduled in advance and TDO will notify the Competitor of the performance time when they arrive in Dallas for the semi-finals. Each Competitor is solely responsible for providing transportation to and from the Competition.
Rehearsals. Each Applicant chosen as a Competitor will be notified of the scheduled rehearsal times at the time of selection as a semi-finalist.
Release. Subject to these Terms and Conditions, the Applicant hereby grants to TDO, a nonexclusive, perpetual, royalty-free, fully paid, irrevocable, and worldwide license to use, reproduce, distribute, modify, have modified, create, and have created derivative works from, transfer, or sublicense to others and otherwise directly and indirectly exploit the Applicant’s name, likeness, and all materials submitted with the Application, for use in TDO’s sole discretion to promote or market any and all TDO events, including, without limitation any performances by the Applicant in the Competition.
Indemnification. The Applicant hereby releases and forever discharges TDO and its agents, successors, and assigns, and agrees to hold them harmless from and against any and all claims, demands, causes of action, damages, losses, rights, liabilities, attorney fees, costs, torts, suits, at law or in equity, or otherwise, whether direct or indirect, known or unknown, of whatsoever nature, arising out of or based in whole or in part upon any agreements, facts, acts, omissions, conducts, claims, events, causes, or matters of any kind occurring or existing at any time on or before the date of this Application and its Terms and Conditions and arising out of or in connection with this Application, its Terms and Conditions, The Dallas Opera Guild Biennial Lone Star Vocal Competition or other related TDO activities.
Prizes. Prizes will be awarded as follows. 1st Place $5,000; 2nd Place $3,000; 3rd Place $1,500, and Peoples’ Choice of $1,000.
Payment. Prizes will be paid within ten business days to the winners of the competition via check or wire, as requested by the Competitor. A W-9 is required from each Competitor chosen as a finalist, and payment will not be sent until received by TDO. Any taxes or other necessary withholdings are the sole responsibility of the Competitor.
