    2024/2025 Hart Institute Virtual Sessions

    The annual Linda and Mitch Hart Institute for Women Conductors began November 18–21, 2024 with daily virtual sessions, many of which were livestreamed and open for the public to view at no cost on The Dallas Opera’s YouTube channel or digital.dallasopera.org.

     


    The Inner Game of Music

    November 18, 2024 | 1:00pm-2:00pm CST

    Barry Green– Lecturer, Author of “The Inner Game of Music,” and former principal bassist of the Cincinnati Symphony

    Barry Green is a master at the mind-body connection and will discuss overcoming the mental obstacles to performance, practicing and teaching through the techniques of Awareness, Commitment and Trust; as well as speaking with the conductors about mastering the qualities of the human spirit that give one their unique voice.

    Nicole Paiement in Conversation with Women Composers and Conductors

    November 19, 2024 | 1:00pm-2:00pm CST

    Moderator: Nicole Paiement, Martha R. and Preston A. Peak Principal Guest Conductor

    Panelists:

    Gabriela Lena Frank, composer and pianist
    Claire Gibault, conductor, artistic and musical director of the Paris Mozart Orchestra, and co-founder and co-director of La Maestra

    Our Martha R. and Preston A. Peak Principal Guest Conductor, Nicole Paiement, will lead a discussion with these industry leaders about their paths to success as well as composer/conductor collaboration and how it can take opera to the next level.

    Recognizing Bias in Opera

    Alfrelynn Roberts, Director of Artistic Planning and Operations, Portland Opera

    Opera inherently necessitates deep collaboration, but various biases and barriers can prevent meaningful engagement. Opera professionals discuss these biases and share ways to champion inclusive environments for greater collaboration.
