Jamal Story trained at the Lula Washington Dance Theatre in Los Angeles and holds dual degrees in Dance Performance and TV/Radio Communications from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Mr. Story danced with Dallas Black Dance Theater, Fort Worth/Dallas Ballet, and later Donald Byrd/the Group and Complexions in New York, Madonna’s 2001 Drowned World Tour, and Cher’s Living Proof: The Farewell Tour as an aerialist and dancer. He originated The Color Purple and Motown: The Musical on Broadway, serving as a dance captain on both. Mr. Story has also set works on several companies, taught as an interim professor at the University of Missouri Kansas City, and co-chairs the SAG-AFTRA National Dancers Committee. Mr. Story continues his advocacy for educating young artists about the changing landscape of dance and has written two books, 12:34 and Toss in the Ether.
