What a “Prima Donna”…or not, as the case may be.
Evidently singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright, composing the opera, “Prima Donna” for New York’s Metropolitan Opera, has gotten crosswise with the management over language.
We don’t mean the language in the contract, we mean the language the singers will use in this new opera. Wainwright wants French (Oui!) while the Met and Lincoln Center Theater demand English (No!). Scheduling also presented something of a problem, according to “The New York Times” article, yet all sides describe the split as amicable.
