The Guild was established to support and promote The Dallas Opera through outreach, education, fundraising and service, and continues to contribute to its growth today as one of the country’s finest opera companies. Opera Insights is a lively panel discussion featuring the artists, conductor, and artistic staff of upcoming TDO operas, moderated by various members of The Dallas Opera Senior Staff. This popular program is held in Hamon Hall at the Winspear Opera House on a Sunday afternoon prior to the Opera opening. This educational program alone is worth the price of Guild membership.
The Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition for talented young singers aspiring to a professional career in opera, is an annual spring event. The competition is open to residents of all 50 states and U.S. Territories. Competitors must be United States citizens or have the right to work in the U.S. There is no upper or lower age limit for the applicants, however the competition is intended to focus primarily on individuals in the range of 18-34 years of age at the start day of the competition. Exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis
Participants compete for prestige and monetary prizes during the event held in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House. The finalists also have the opportunity to sing with The Dallas Opera Orchestra under the baton of Music Director Emmanuel Villaume. Admission to the semi-finals is complimentary. In 2015 the competition awarded $18,500 to the finalists.
Adopt-an-Artist is a program that welcomes international stars to our community. This much-appreciated program pairs a Guild host for visiting artists to assure that their Dallas Opera experience and brief sojourn in our city is enjoyable. Hosts pick up the artists when they arrive and provide any needed help during their stay.
Locally, the Guild hosts a variety of special educational programs and fun events for members throughout the year. Our Guilded Notes Newsletter provide Guild members with news and information on upcoming activities and events.
