Learn about the upcoming production, the conductor’s approach to the opera, how the singers began their careers and much more!

    The Juanita and Henry S. Miller Jr. Founders Award Luncheon

    Named for the co-Founders of The Dallas Opera, The Juanita and Henry S. Miller, Jr. Founders’ Award was created in 1991 as a way for The Women’s Board to recognize individuals who have made exceptional volunteer and philanthropic contributions for the benefit of the Opera.

    A member of the Miller family presents the Award at the much-anticipated annual Founders’ Award Luncheon, attended by approximately 200 people and featuring vocal artists from a current production. Proceeds from the event are earmarked to support the Hart Institute of Women Conductors within the Opera’s annual operating budget.

    The Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition Semi-Finals

    The Dallas Opera Guild continues to grow the competition. Still bigger than Texas, come see and hear the rising stars of opera from across the country. The Finals held Friday, May 3, include the People’s Choice Award, where you pick the winner!

    The Semi-finals is free to attend, but a ticket will be required. All seating will be General Admission.

    History

    Founded in 1957, the non-profit Dallas Opera Guild first established a formal program to support young singers in 1987, originally known as The Career Development Grant for Singers. That program evolved into The Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition.

    Today, the competition’s classically-trained U.S. singers will compete once a year for industry recognition, career encouragement, the chance to perform on a world-class stage with Maestro Emmanuel Villaume and The Dallas Opera Orchestra as well as significant cash awards—all before a live audience and a panel of judges representing some of the most prestigious opera companies in North America.

    Movie Night – Moulin Rouge

    Join us as for a FREE movie screening presented in partnership with the Dallas Film Society and enjoy the La Bohème inspired, Moulin Rouge. Staring Oscar Nominated Nicole Kidman as Satine and Golden Globe Nominee Ewan McGregor as Christian.

     

    Christian, a young Englishman in 1899 Paris, becomes infatuated with Satine, a singer at the Moulin Rouge. However, she has been promised by the manager to a Duke in return for funding his next production. As the young lovers meet in secret, Satine’s wedding day draws closer but she hides a fatal secret from both Christian and the Duke.
