Twenty-nine soloists and chorus members performing arias from 23 operas – and not a single speech, according to the “New York Times” at the 125th Anniversary Gala of the Metropolitan Opera on Sunday night. The event also marked the 40th anniversary of the indomitable Placido Domingo’s Metropolitan Opera debut (Yes, he performed) several years after making his U.S. opera debut in 1961 right here at The Dallas Opera. Congratulations to Maestro Domingo and all the fantastic artists who have enriched opera through their performances (both on and off-stage) for the past 125 years!
