TDO’s casual summer events series, BARITONES & BEACHBALLS, brought to you by “Friends of the Dallas Opera” is a no-cost or low-cost series that includes intriguing panel discussions related to our upcoming season; special networking and social events; enticing tastings and cool, casual movie nights in partnership with Dallas Film Society. Dallas Opera discussion “Wagner’s Aims and the Pan-European Roots of Tristan & Isolde.” Why this ancient myth moved from Celtic mythology to French, German and even Slavic versions of the tale and how it changed to accommodate the morals and literary tastes of each society that embraced it. Special guests, Dr. Robert Scott Dupree, Co-Director, Program in Comparative Literary Traditions, the University of Dallas and Dr. Margaret Notley, a Professor of Music History from UNT’s College of Music.
