FAMILY PROGRAMMING IS BROUGHT TO YOU IN PART BY THE PEROT FOUNDATION EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS
DALLAS, MAY 3, 2012 – The Dallas Opera, in an effort to present a greater variety of options to families seeking to acquaint their younger members with the joys of opera, is proud to announce a new program: TDO Family Subscription Packages.
For just $12 per person ($48 total), a family of four can experience three different types of opera performances over the course of a year, and have access to fun-filled, interactive lobby demonstrations and activities prior to each family performance.
Single admission tickets for each performance are only $5. Both can be purchased through the Dallas Opera Ticket Services Office at 214.443.1000 or online, 24/7, at dallasopera.org/family.
Dallas Opera Chief Marketing Officer and Director of Community Development Jennifer Schuder explains: “This is a terrific opportunity to check-out our very popular production of Georges Bizet’s DOCTOR MIRACLE, a charming operetta for all ages, as well as a brand-new production of John Davies’ operatic tale of JACK AND THE BEANSTALK designed by the Dallas Opera’s own Tommy Bourgeoise.
“We have also decided to do more to bring kids, orchestras, and rising young opera stars together this year,” adds Ms. Schuder, “prompting us to schedule another outstanding TDO Family Concert, which is fast becoming a North Texas tradition, and to perform DOCTOR MIRACLE with the Dallas Opera Orchestra rather than a simple piano accompaniment.”
TDO FAMILY PERFORMANCE OFFERINGS:
TDO FAMILY CONCERT
Our family concert typically features selections by Mozart, Puccini, Bizet, Rossini, and Jake Heggie. Come early for related crafts and activities in the spacious lobby of the Winspear Opera House, and stay for an afternoon of unforgettable music-making! This year’s TDO Family Concert will feature TDO Orchestra and rising young opera stars and will take place on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. and Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Single tickets are $5.
TDOpage2stage™
Both you and the kids can settle in for a fully staged production of John Davies’ delightful opera JACK AND THE BEANSTALK, with lyrics constructed on the effervescent patter songs and melodies of 19th century British composer, Sir Arthur Sullivan (of Gilbert & Sullivan fame). But don’t stop there—participate ahead of time in our interactive TDO Kids Book Club and get more out of your outing.
Performances will take place at the Winspear Opera House on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. and Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Single tickets are $5.
DOCTOR MIRACLE
The Dallas Opera will present a fully staged, 45-minute performance of Bizet’s DOCTOR MIRACLE at the Winspear Opera House. This comic gem filled with love, wacky disguises, and omelets is the perfect children’s introduction to this unique art form. And Bizet’s music (after all, he later composed Carmen and The Pearl Fishers), will enchant both young and old. Performances on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. (part of Family Subscription) and Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. (part of Family Subscription). Single tickets are $5.
ALSO AT TDO’S SUMMER@THEOPERA…
campTDO™
Designed for kids from kindergarten through 5th grade, campTDO encourages hands-on exploration of John Davies’ opera, JACK AND THE BEANSTALK. This three-hour camp shows youngsters how operas are created and produced at the Dallas Opera Rehearsal and Production Center located just outside Fair Park. Each camp session will conclude with a fully staged performance of JACK AND THE BEANSTALK, performed by TDO professional teaching artists. Come join in the fun Friday, June 22, 2012 and Friday, July 27, 2012 from 9:00 until noon.
Cost: $25 per child, $20 for Dallas Opera subscribers.
DOCTOR MIRACLE
The Dallas Opera will present Bizet’s DOCTOR MIRACLE at Dallas Children’s Theater. A hilarious, fully-staged one-act opera about a young man’s quest to marry his true love, the mayor’s daughter. He must disguise himself as a servant who makes a “poison” omelet, and as a doctor who saves the family — all for the sake of true love. Will the happy couple get married? Join TDO and find out. Performances on Sunday, June 10, 2012 and Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.
