It’s going to be a beautiful weekend to take the kids and grandkids out of storage (did I just write that?) and introduce them to the joys of classical music and the Dallas Opera’s “hands-on” introduction to opera. The action starts in the Winspear Opera House lobby at noon Saturday (i.e. tomorrow) with hands-on arts and crafts. Then, at 1:30, it’ll be the Dallas Children’s Theater preview of their upcoming show: “Madeline’s Christmas.” More fun in the lobby from 2 to 3 PM and then it’s into the Margaret McDermott Performance Hall for the Dallas Opera Orchestra under the baton of visiting conductor Maestro Anthony Barrese. The orchestra will be performing a variety of favorite overtures and famous pieces, while also accompanying three terrific young stars onstage: soprano Ava Pine, who will star in the Dallas Opera’s upcoming production of “The Magic Flute,” mezzo Sasha Cooke and Resident Young Artist Aaron Blake who just got bumped-off in TDO’s revival of “Lucia di Lammermoor.”
Although we’re billing this as a $5 Family Concert, EVERYONE is welcome. Purchase tickets online, in advance, or at the door.
Our sincere thanks to Nancy Churnin of “The Dallas Morning News” for her terrific shout-out in her KidBeat column.
I’ll be there tomorrow, trying to keep from gluing my fingers together. I hope to see you then!
