One of the world’s most prestigious architecture prizes has gone to a European firm with a name I wouldn’t attempt to pronounce. The point is: we’re seeing a definite trend in 21st century opera houses that embrace their citizenry and surroundings rather than cordially inviting bystanders to “Get lost.” To give credit where credit it due, it’s a trend that can be traced back at least as far as the iconic Sydney Opera House…but isn’t it grand, in just the most inviting of ways?
