To paraphrase KERA reporter/producer Jerome Weeks: You can’t ask much more from an opera…announcement. Donors and members of the Dallas Opera Chorus and staff gathered onstage to hear a few retrospective words about the impact of “Moby-Dick” on this company before introducing a video featuring opera mega-star mezzo Joyce DiDonato announcing that a) She will be making her North Texas stage debut in 2015 and b) She will be starring in the Dallas Opera’s newly commissioned opera from composer Jake Heggie and librettist Terrence McNally, the dean of American playwrights. The media was quick to react.

And Gregory Sullivan Isaacs at “Theater Jones” led the parade.
Jake made touching comments during tonight’s presentation about Dallas being his “second creative home.” He also read a lovely statement from Terrence McNally that mirrored Miss DiDonato’s obvious enthusiasm for the project.
