At TDO the internationally celebrated projection designer’s work has included La Wally, Iolanta, Tristan und Isolde, and the world premieres of Great Scott, Everest, and Moby–Dick. Her opera credits also include It’s a Wonderful Life (world premiere, Houston Grand Opera), Mazeppa and War and Peace (co-productions of the Mariinsky Theatre and the Metropolitan Opera), Dead Man Walking (New York City Opera), and Cold Mountain (world premiere, Santa Fe Opera). McCarthy’s career spans 23 years in nearly every area of live performance. Broadway highlights include Wicked, Spamalot, Impressionism, The People in the Picture, Assassins, Man of La Mancha, Into the Woods, Thurgood, and Judgment at Nuremberg. Among McCarthy’s many off-Broadway credits are Frequency Hopping (set and projections), Distracted (set and projections), Embedded, The Stendhal Syndrome, Once in a Lifetime, The Thing About Men, and Notes from the Field. McCarthy is a former adjunct instructor at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. In 2020 McCarthy received the Distinguished Achievement Award for Digital Media given by the United States Institute for Theatre Technology.
