The headline in today’s “Opera Warhorses” reads “World Treasure: a Stunning Dallas Opera Revival of Tarkovsky’s Classic, Insightful ‘Boris Godunov’ April 1, 2011″
And from “The Dallas Morning News” we heard from Classical Music Critic Scott Cantrell that “the Dallas Opera Boris Godunov that opened Friday night at the Winspear Opera House would be a triumph for any opera house, anywhere.”
Olin Chism at KERA’s “Art and Seek blog” was knocked out by the singing and acting chops of our Boris, Russian star Mikhail Kazakov.
“The Flash List” compared it to cavier for the discriminating musical palate: as in you get it, you love it – or you don’t.
And Gregory Sullivan Isaacs at “Theater Jones” pronounced: “A Tsar is Born.”
More to come, and the matinee starts promptly at 2:00 this afternoon. There’s still time.
