If, after the relaxed yet romantic “Patron Appreciation Recital” given by tenor Stephen Costello and soprano Ailyn Perez on Monday, November 8th, you can’t get enough of their chemistry – check out not one, not two, but three extensive pieces by local journalist Marilee Vergati that explore multiple aspects of their wedded life, their red-hot careers and their fascinating journey into the world of opera.
However, the stars of “Anna Bolena” and our recent production of “Don Giovanni” aren’t the only notable twosome to find true love onstage. Here’s another delightful read by Sue Gilmore about mezzo-soprano Paula Rasmussen and her husband, bass-baritone Don Sherrill, who met while performing a – literal – Cinderella story (“La Cenerentola”) at the Dallas Opera, returned a year later to star in our 1994 production of “Romeo & Juliet,” married, and now pursue dual careers as hard-hitting lawyers by day and talented singers by night.
Sounds a bit like a Marvel Comic book plot, doesn’t it?
