He-Who-Shall-Go-Unnamed isn’t the only Opera Company head honcho feeling the heat this summer. Word today out of Norway that Paul Curran plans to cut short his tenure as chief of that country’s national opera. Get more details here. Interestingly, the biggest (or most vocal) complaint seems to be his perceived lack of support for homegrown Norwegian opera composers.
Now, meaning no disrespect: I’m wracking my brains trying to think if I’ve ever heard so much as an aria from a Norwegian opera. Have you?
Curran will be staging LA BOHEME at Santa Fe this summer, which may seem like a welcome relief from his Scandinavian day-job.
