I have heard next to nothing about Edinburgh this year. Here’s a link to Norman Lebrecht’s take on two festivals at a critical point in their histories, Edinburgh and Salzburg. Lebrecht contends that the Scottish festival, once a real contender, is rapidly becoming irrelevant while Salzburg continues to reinvent itself for fresh, young audiences.
It seems to me, there’s a lesson and a warning here.
