A Picture Worth “The Column”

by Suzanne Calvin

Writing for “John Garcia’s THE COLUMN” and “Pegasus News,” Mark-Brian Sonna was wowed from the moment the curtain went up last Friday night on “Lucia di Lammermoor”:

“As the curtain rises the audience holds its breath. Before us is a scene straight out of Rembrandt Painting. Granted, Rembrandt is Dutch and the Opera takes place in Scotland, but the chiaroscuro effect and the period correct clothing immediately transforms the audience to another era. The attention to every detail in costuming, wigs, set, props, is perfect. If one is to see a classical opera performed in a classical way without any modern interpretations added, then this Lucia di Lammermoor is a must.”

Read the rest of his review here…and remember, there is a performance tonight at 7:30 PM in the Winspear. I hope we’ll see you there!
