by Suzanne Calvin

Stephen Sondheim is excoriating the decision to revise portions of George Gershwin’s always controversial masterpiece, “Porgy & Bess,” in a new production opening at American Repertory Theatre. However, longtime critic for the “Philadelphia Inquirer,” David Patrick Stearns, thinks the original will stand--not because the revisions aren’t any good--but because the tried-and-true ending simply¬†works better.

It’s an interesting read, and one you can access on his blog, “Condemned to Music.”
