Opera “Q” and A

by Suzanne Calvin

Honestly, a marriage of opera and science fiction couldn’t be more natural so…this head-snapping notice immediately caught my eye. It seems that actor/director John de Lancie (best known to sci-fi aficionados as the character “Q” in Star-Trek “The Next Generation”) is headed to Texas to conduct a bonafide master class on acting in opera.

The man has definite chops.  In recent years, he’s been making quite a name for himself in the rarified world of opera directing.

Wouldn’t you love to sit in?  (Image courtesy of ugo.com)

Yes. Too bad you missed it. But, John in addition to teaching a class this year…last year did marry Science Fiction and Opera together in his own directorial debut of the Opera~ Madama Butterfly. It was great. He’s more than Q. A lot more than that….
