The Winspear Home

by Suzanne Calvin

Not the house, the home.

Word that Bill and Margot Winspear’s former Turtle Creek residence, a double penthouse suite with sweeping views of the new opera house named in their honor, is up for sale.  Details in Alan Peppard’s Dallas Morning News column.  For those who may not know: the couple put up $42 million to financially anchor the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts (now ATTPAC) and construction of a world-class opera house for all the people of North Texas.

Went to see “South Pacific” last night, this was my first time in Winspear. The venue is marvelous. However, the seats are extremely uncomfortable. Straight backs and cushions hard as bricks, my back was killing me about 45 minutes into the show. I can’t imagine sitting through a long Opera. This is my only complaint about Winspear.
