Resources for Teachers
The Dallas Opera is committed to turning opera into a learning opportunity for the students of North Texas, at as low a cost to you as possible. As a supplement to our educational programming, we offer FREE Professional Development Sessions for teachers and an interdisciplinary, TEKs-aligned curriculum for your students.
Professional Development: Teacher Training
Teacher Training Sessions are designed to equip teachers of all disciplines with the tools needed to incorporate the interdisciplinary, TEKs-aligned curriculum into the classroom when preparing students for their opera experience. These sessions will also help to broaden your knowledge of opera as an art form and provide an overview of the operas featured in the upcoming season, both mainstage and student performances. Teachers can reserve a seat at one of the Teacher Training Sessions when registering for one of the Educational Programs or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Each session concludes with a tour of the Winspear Opera House.
The Dallas Opera has a curriculum team comprised of its education staff and two local teachers working together to build lessons for students, grades 3-12. Because opera encompasses much more than music, we offer lessons in Language Arts, Social Studies, Math in addition to Music. All lessons are available for download online and include a selection of video and audio excerpts.
