Resources for Teachers
The Dallas Opera is committed to turning opera into a learning opportunity for the students of North Texas, at as low a cost to you as possible. As a supplement to our arts educational programming, we offer comprehensive teacher training and TEKS-aligned curriculum materials to help you bring opera into the classroom and make the most of your students’ experience with opera.
TDO Professional Development
These sessions are designed to broaden your knowledge of opera as an art form, the operas featured in the upcoming TDO season (both mainstage and student performances), and an overview of the curriculum materials provided by TDO to support your students’ attendance of the opera.
You will be able to reserve your seat at one of the Professional Development Sessions while you are registering your students for one of the TDO student programs. (Registration opens August 28th, 2013.)
Classroom Materials
TDO has a team of curriculum writers who build lessons for students from 4rd grade to high school. Since opera encompasses much more than just music, TDO offers curriculum materials in Language Arts, Social Studies, Math and Visual Arts in addition to Music. In addition, TDO offers a selection of video and audio excerpts that teachers can incorporate into their lesson plans.
