The Dallas Opera is committed to bringing quality arts educational programs to the students of North Texas, at as low a cost to you as possible. As in years past, the generosity of our partners has enabled us to bring you many of these programs for FREE!
To help you turn opera into a learning opportunity for your students, our programs include comprehensive teacher training and TEKS-aligned classroom materials covering language arts, math, music, social studies, visual arts, and more! See examples of classroom materials from last year.

This year, we are offering a fully-staged, 50-minute abridged version of Gaetano Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love — a comedic gem that ensures true love will prevail with the aid of a “magic” potion. We offer two ways to bring The Elixir of Love to your students.
TDO Student Matinees™
The chandelier will go up, the lights will go down, the orchestra will tune, and students will be treated to The Elixir of Love at the Winspear Opera House. The fully-staged opera production will be accompanied by the TDO Orchestra.
Grades 3rd–8th
Dates January 28–31, 2014, 10:30–11:30am

TDO Touring Opera™
TDO Touring Opera brings our fully-staged The Elixir of Love to your school’s cafeteria, gym or auditorium. This production comes complete with sets and costumes, accompanied by piano. Your school must provide a 20′×20′ performance space. Ideal for student groups from 100 to 1,000.
Grades 3rd–8th
Dates Tuesdays and Thursdays of select weeks between October 2013 and May 2014. All performances offered at 10:30am.
Cost $100 for public schools; $500 for private schools
TDOinaSuitcase™
After-School Programming
If you are an after-school provider, bring the world of Jack and the Beanstalk to your students with our FREE TDOinaSuitcase program! We offer a 2-day residency consisting of, on day 1, a one-hour interactive workshop of visual art projects and music activities, and on day 2, a fully-staged, piano-accompanied performance of Jack and the Beanstalk performed by TDO teaching artists. The production is designed for your school’s cafeteria, gym or auditorium — the performance space needs to be at least 20′×20′.

These two FREE programs bring our 2013–2014 mainstage productions to your students.
TDO Dress Rehearsals™
Be the first to see a TDO production! The TDO Dress Rehearsals program invites area middle school, high school and college teachers to introduce their students to opera. Teachers can bring their students to observe the artistic process at a working final dress rehearsal of a mainstage TDO production. These rehearsals begin at 7:30pm.

TDOSightlines™
At the Winspear Opera House, a few areas of the performance hall have restricted views of the stage — and even though the acoustics are just as good as the rest of the house, these seats are hard to sell to the public. Our loss is your gain!

All performances begin at 7:30pm except Sunday matinees which begin at 2:00pm, and the opening Carmen which begins at 8:00pm.
