Student Performance Programs
One of Mozart’s earliest works and written at age 12, Bastien and Bastienne is a comedic one-act opera that tells a tale of a young shepherdess, Bastienne and her boyfriend, Bastien. Bastienne believes her lover has fallen in love with a wealthy girl from the big city. Distressed about her plight, she runs into Colas, the town “magician” who has a few ideas of his own on how to reunite the young couple.!
- A great introduction into the world of opera through the classroom, students see a fully-staged opera performance, featuring exceptional vocal teams from the graduate programs at the SMU Vocal Department and the UNT Opera Program.
Students will experience a performance of Mozart’s Bastien and Bastienne accompanied by the Dallas Opera Orchestra at the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House. All performances begin at 10:30am and include a 30-minute “behind-the-scenes” discussion with the cast and production staff after each performance.

Mainstage Performance Opportunities
These two FREE programs allow your students to experience our 2016-2017 productions at the Winspear Opera House.
Mainstage Attendance Policy
Please only reserve the number of seats needed for your group, but we ask that you limit adult/chaperone seats to one for every 10 students. Chaperones may be teachers, school staff, school volunteers or parents.
If you need to revise your reservation, please call 214-443-1082 or email TDO Education as soon as possible. We will also send an email one month prior to the event reminding you to make any changes to your reservation if needed. You must confirm a final headcount no later than 2 weeks prior to the event to allow us to offer any unclaimed seats to groups on our wait list. If your group fails to attend without providing prior notice (no-show) or a significant amount of your group fails to attend (ex: 30 ticket reservation, but only 15 are used), your group/school/organization will not be allowed to sign up for the free mainstage programs for the following Season.
We understand that last-minute circumstances beyond our control arise (transportation trouble, illness, inclement weather, etc.) and will be happy to work with you on those particular kinds of situations, but you must communicate with us. However, if you make the request for tickets for a group, it is your responsibility to ensure that your group attends. We strive to serve students in the community by filling as many seats as possible — and nobody likes to see empty seats in the house!
